Cemex venues Sandhurst and Frimley's Pit 3 have both yielded some superb specimens in recent weeks to both Kristian Morris and Rob Maylin. Sandhurst was first in June with three 20-plus mirrors taken in a short morning session using these prolific fish catchers. Bottom baits combined with a small stick cast to bubbling fish proved the downfall of all three 20’s to 26lb; an instant feeding response was noted, and all the action came within a couple of hours before the sun came up.
Kristian has been targeting the big Frimley commons this year for the first time, and had already landed several of its hard fighting residents.
An overnight session in the prolific Double Boards swim saw the first of the ‘big boys’ fall foul of the Steamies. The fish known as One Barb was in pristine condition, and spun the scales around to an incredible 39lb 13oz, just three ounces short of the magical 40, but certainly destined to be well over 40 in the coming months as the fish prepare for spawning.
Frimley is open all year round and has a night syndicate on the venue for the first time ever this season. With upwards of five 40lb commons and a 40lb mirror, it is one of the premier big fish waters in the country. Kristian will continue his campaign on the venue this season, and has promised Big Carp readers all the latest on his captures throughout the year. So watch this space.
