I have just returned from a bait delivery to ClearWater lakes in Brittany France, When I arrived I had a nice cup of tea with the owners and looked to unload the van as I had 250kg of frozen Steamies and half a tonne of hemp and particle along with lots of merchandise. After my tea and a nice chat I had a good walk around the lake and spoke with the holiday makers and found they had been sneaking a few out on the TNTs and PinaColada's, On walking round I found only swim 7 available so I got the barrow loaded and proceeded down to the swim, As I got down there and started to watch the water and look for feeding signs in the obvious looking places, after a short while I saw 1 fish top down in swim 8s water so had a wonder down to this swim and had a chat with the guy in the swim and it turned out he was only doing the day in there although he was set up in swim 6 for the evening and informed me I could have the swim later if I wanted, so I had to wait until 730,pm to get the swim.
As I moved into the swim I was keen to get a rod down where the fish had been topping which was roughly 30/35yards round to my left with a tree overhanging the margin making it an impossible cast from the bank so out came the wadders to aid getting the trap where I wanted it and then I walked round and put around 50 Individuals Baits TNT steamies in a lose scattering all around the foam nuggets on the surface, MY set up was made up of 5inch 15lb soft ghost hooklinks, Korda wide gape PTFE size 6s as I love how slick they are, with Korda swivel & lead clips and tail rubbers fished straight through slack line stylee with some putty at various points up the line to pin it all to the bottom. Shortly after I was getting the other 2 rods out opposite to a large snaggy area on the edge of some pads and I had a 1 tonner followed by a solid lump of carp resulting in a fine mirror and my first bite with this 34lb 4oz. I managed to get the guy from peg 6 to do some shots as the carp was not patient enough for me to capture the shots with the self timer.
During the night I did manage to lose the next 3 runs which happen on all 3 spots and with 1 getting into the tree I mentioned earlier and the other 2 coming off in a hook and hold situation try to keep them away from the same snagg, so I was a bit distort to say the least. the next fish came from round the left again at 29lb12oz and another mirror shortly after at 28lb15 oz with me catching this 31lb8oz Common just as night was closing in.
The next night was uneventful with fish still showing occasionally but not hooking themselfs, and by morning I had no more action. and with the swimm getting quieter by the hour I could feel a move coming on and reeled in for a wonder, after a good walk around I had found some fish in a large fallen oak tree out in front of swim 4 and decided this was where I needed to be so wasted no time in getting the swimm packed up and relocated to what was hopefully gonna be a productive swim.
The night passed without event and everytime I stirred from my slumber I did hear activity back down in peg 8 so that morning decide to pre-bait the oaktree and mark the clear spots tight on the far bank so I could easily put the rods to these spots that evening thinking that if I spend the day pushing them roun d the they may settle on my unpressured prebaited area in the sanctuary of the oak. after this I made myself mobile and got down to 8 for a few hours with no success, but whilst I was down there I did see some feeding going on infront of swim 7 so decided to move.
As I was setting up in 7 a carp stuck its head out right in front of me helping to build my confidence I had 2 snags on the far margin (at 40/50yards) with pads either side so decided to go safely between the snags and on the pads- after an hour the left hader was away with a hard fighting 20lb ish mirror (i didnt weigh it as it was just going mental when i unhooked it) then shortly after a recast I had another mirror of 27&1/2 and just as I was getting ready to pack up the left hander was away again this time with a better fish of 32lb12 oz and left me content and ready for action in the oaks.
After a good shower and a bit of munch I decided to get the rods out for the night, around 130 in the morning I had a ripping take and lifted into a hard fighting fish which after a few minute bounced off 10yards from the bank with a bit of detritus on the hook explaining the lack of hook hold, later at 4ish the right hand rod was away and after an epic battle I was looking down at this nice 40lb3oz Mirror and what a finish to a bonus fishing trip 8 fish in 4 days.
