Name : Chris Westley
Age : 23
Occupation : Gas Engineer
PB : 46lb
Favourite Venue : Beeches Brook
Favourite Steamie : Pina-colanda and TNT a mixture of both.
Most used rig : The Stiff Rig, This consists of a stiff material usually fluorocarbon tied to a size 6 stiff rigger hook with a small piece of silicone on the bend and fished with a double 18mm Steamie or a snowman with a 10mm pop-up.The weight of the bait makes this simple rig very aggressive and effective,
Target fish : Metalic Mirror from a private lake in Dorset
Top tip : Find the fish.... there is no point getting every thing else right if there are no carp in front of you.I will spend as much time as it takes to find the fish before setting up
in a swim,i first will look for the obvious signs like bubbling and fish jumping ect then if i still cant be sure i will ask the anglers leaving where the fish have been caught. Then if all else fails i look to the weather and think where the carp are most likely to be.
Aim in angling : To enjoy it and go as much as possible
Why your on the Steamies : How many people on your lake are using the Cell or Monster Squid probably most of them. But how many are using a steamed bait, very few of them i feel this is a massive edge to have a bait that is different to the majority.
Achievements on the Steamies : Well i have caught the set of five big catfish from my local syndicate on double 18mm Pina-colada Steamies they ranged from 44lb to 51lb.Also i took the Pina-colada and the TNT to France in the Carp Media Masters Match and managed 8 fish including a 36lb mirror and a massive 46lb mirror all on 18mm TNT Steamies tipped off with 10mm Pina-colada popups. On my local water in the last Month i have caught over 26 different 20lb plus carp and a load of cats of around 10lb to 33lb.
How long have you been on the bait : 4-5 months
How often you fish : I have a full time job and can only fish one 22 hour session a week so finish work on the Friday and go straight to the lake and come home on the Saturday afternoon.
